In 2001, JRA was selected to design the new Student Recreation Center. Phase I of the Center was opened in the summer of 2006 and had a construction budget of $5.9 million and is 39,000 square feet. It consists of fitness areas for aerobics, cardio-vascular workout areas with the latest exercise equipment, a multi-purpose room, locker rooms and an administrative suite. The facility is the headquarters for the FAMU Intramural Athletics Office and campus Fitness/Nutritional Program. There is conference and meeting spaces, a Pro Shop, snack bar and related amenities. Phase II is 30,000 square feet and has a construction budget of $3.2 million. This phase will have basketball courts, racquetball courts, and athletic fields for the Universitys intramural sports program. This phase is currently on hold.
